1. Conference Theme and Purpose

Since mid-20th century, the size and scale of the human enterprise have grown exponentially. However, this growth has also subjected nature, and the services it provides to humanity, to an increasing risk. Over the last few decades, we have witnessed increasing depletion of forest and natural resources, decline in animal populations and species, increasing pollution of air and water resources, extreme weather conditions, etc. The 21st century presents humanity with a dual challenge to maintain nature in all of its many forms and functions and to create an equitable home for people on a finite planet.

While the interdependence between the social, economic and environmental agendas is gradually being recognized at the highest levels (as defined in the Sustainable Development Goals), over the years, numerous entrepreneurial individuals have been experimented and developed models of sustainable living. The learning from such existing benchmarks and models is extremely relevant to inform development strategies, economic models, business models and lifestyle choices.

Correspondingly, this year, the theme of the 9th National Conference on Social Entrepreneurship is

The Conference aims to celebrate, showcase and learn from some of these initiatives and ventures, and to create a platform for knowledge-sharing and partnerships.

2. Conference Design and Schedule

The conference design will entail the following sessions, where social entrepreneurs/ development sector professionals will share their experiences, issues and challenges:

  • 3. Venue and Participation Fee

    The registration for the conference will start at 10.00am on January 27th, 2017, and the conference will conclude at 13:00pm on January 29th, 2017.


    NOTE: For Cancellations, fee will be refunded, after deducting Rs.1000/- as processing charges, if communicated before January 22nd, 2017 to seconference@xlri.ac.in

    5. Crowdfund the 9th NCSE - Sponsor a Participant

    Target: INR 400,000/-
    Achieved (as on Jan 29th, '17): INR 345,500/-

    Like every year, the 9th National Conference on Social Entrepreneurship will bring together a community of 170-180 social sector professionals/ practitioners, academics and students to learn from each other, build partnerships and strengthen the ecosystem of social entrepreneurship.

    Besides the 25-27 speakers/resource persons, about 60-70+ of these participants are students, who pay a nominal fee of INR 800/- (non-residential) or INR 1000/- (residential). We get a few participants from corporate and funding agencies, who pay higher fee; almost all other participants are social entrepreneurs, self-sponsored professionals or from NGOs/ CBOs, who pay a fee of INR 3,500/- (non-residential) or INR 5,500/- (residential).

    Our average per participant cost is about INR 6000/-

    Given the scale and expenses in organizing the conference, we invite you to support us in this endeavor. You can sponsor fee for one participant for INR 5,000/- or provide part sponsorship in multiples of INR 1,000/-.
